Mealworm Care Instructions

Care Instructions - Mealworms
Scientific Name: Tenebrio molitor
Common Name: Mealworm
Larvae of: Darkling Beetle

To keep them dormant (up to four weeks), put the worms in a plastic container with a bed of wheat bran, place them in a refrigerator, set at 42°F - 54°F until ready for use. When you are ready to use them, remove the worms you plan to feed and place them in a room temperature environment until they become active, roughly 24 hours before feeding to your animal.

If you plan to keep the mealworms for longer than one week, remove them from the refrigerator 1-2 times a week, and let them become active. Once they become active, place a slice of potato or
carrot on the top of the bedding to provide moisture, and let them sit for 24 hours. Then, place them back in the refrigerator to keep dormant.
